Norris Lake Dock Builder

Norris is the oldest TVA reservoir — impounded in 1936 — and one of the deepest, clearest lakes in the system. We design, permit, and build across all 34,000 acres, from the Powell River headwaters down to the Norris Dam.

Norris Lake

The deepest, clearest lake in East Tennessee.

Norris Lake covers 34,000 acres across Anderson, Campbell, Claiborne, Grainger, and Union counties — a long, multi-armed reservoir on the Clinch and Powell Rivers. Famous for deep, clear water and a stable shoreline of forested ridges.

Norris's deeper water and significant 20-foot drawdown make fixed boathouse builds and multi-slip structures the most common ask. Floating docks make sense at the deepest points and on docks built for vacation rental use.

Build Strategy

Deep Water, Big Drawdown.

Norris's 20-foot seasonal swing is one of the largest in our service area. That changes the math on dock design: fixed docks need extended ladders or stairs to reach winter pool water; floating docks need pile-guided systems with travel rated for the full drawdown.

  • Fixed boathouses are the signature Norris build — deep piles, multi-slip layouts, standing-seam roofs.
  • Floating docks for properties with deeper water or where vacation-rental usability across drawdown matters.
  • Pile depth spec'd for low-pool conditions; we drive piles to bedrock where it makes sense.
  • Lift sizing accounts for the full 20-foot water-level range — the lift has to align with the hull in every season.

Frequently Asked

Norris Lake FAQ

Is Norris really 20 feet of drawdown?

Yes — Norris is one of TVA's biggest drawdown lakes. Winter pool sits roughly 20 feet below summer full pool. That drives the design of every Norris dock.

What kind of dock is best for Norris?

Fixed boathouses are the workhorse build — deep piles, multi-slip, standing-seam roof. Floating docks make sense for deeper-water properties and for owners who want winter usability.

Do you build vacation-rental docks on Norris?

Yes — rental-use docks are a strong Norris niche. We spec them for heavier traffic, wider walkways, and easier guest navigation.

Do I need a TVA 26a permit on Norris?

Yes — Norris is TVA-managed. We file, cover the $1,000 fee, and handle TVA review.

How clear is Norris water actually?

Among the clearest in the TVA system. The clarity affects how a dock is perceived — muddy footings and quick-build hardware show through. We finish accordingly.
